At la Academia we believe strongly in the importance of accurate, reliable translation. So we are saddened to see that the excellent Translation Studies Unit (TSU) at Imperial College is under threat of closure or transfer to another institution.
The TSU specialises in training scientific, medical and technical translators. As stated many times in these pages, translation is a very specialised field and good translators usually have a core set of subjects in which they are particularly knowledgeable. Translators with specialist knowledge of these sectors are in great demand, and we see no sense in cutting back on developing linguists who can provide good scientific translation.
