It’s sometimes overlooked that Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world, after Mandarin Chinese. In fact, Spanish is the first language of approximately 30 countries. Including most South American countries.

Furthermore, it’s also sometimes overlooked that Spain itself comprises 17 regions. And, that these 17 regions include six different Spanish languages. They are –

  • Castilian – Spoken by 72% of the Spanish population.
  • Galician – Spoken in Galicia.
  • Basque – Spoken in Spanish Basque Country.
  • Catalan – Spoken in the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, and Valencian regions.
  • Aragonese and Asturian – Spoken in Aragon and Asturia, though neither are recognised as official languages.

Therefore, when you’re planning to re-locate, work, study, or visit Spain, it’s wise to do your homework. Check in advance which language is used in the region you’ll be living, working, studying, or holidaying in. Or languages. Because it may be more than just one.

Most professional Spanish language lessons focus on the core Spanish language. But, think about your end destination.  A one cap fits all approach might not quite meet your exact Spanish language learning needs.
