Learning Spanish is kind of a big deal. According to statistics and data specialists Worldostats in their Languages by Number of Speakers (2025 Updated List):

Spanish, with 560 million speakers, is a global language spoken across Spain, Latin America, and parts of the United States. It is the official language of 20 countries, making it one of the most geographically widespread languages”.

And Spanish Language Day on 23rd April is the perfect excuse to finally get round to learning Spanish (or showing off what you’ve already achieved).

But what if your Spanish lessons or online learning to date have left you feeling uninspired?

The thing is, learning Spanish should be fascinating, not mind-numbing! So, here’s la Academia’s top tips to ignite your language learning journey.

Transform Learning Spanish from “Can’t Bear” to “Can’t Wait”!

  • Take the leap and start learning SpanishSpanish lessons can be life-changing, whether you’re an absolute beginner or rusty returner. A good teacher will help you roll those R’s with finesse (eventually).
  • Listen, sing and dance – Blast Ricky Martin, Bad Bunny, or Enrique Iglesias (or his dad Julio) and let the lyrics work their magic. After all, singing along (badly) still counts as language practice.
  • Read Spanish books – Tackle a few pages of Don Quixote. Or find a short story by a modern Spanish author. Your vocab and your cultural clout will grow.
  • Have a Spanish box set binge – Netflix has tons of juicy Spanish language series and films, (side-eyeing Harlan Coben’s Caught and The Innocent). And subtitles are your friend, enabling you to pick up key phrases you won’t learn in class.
  • Cook up a fiestaLearning Spanish extends to the kitchen, besides classrooms, screens, and books. Why not try your hand at paella, patatas bravas, and churros? Follow a recipe in Spanish for an extra challenge.

At la Academia, our rolling programme of Spanish courses helps hundreds of diverse students expand their brains every year. Plus, learning Spanish also opens doors, hearts, and dinner invitations!

So why not start now? Spanish Language Day might just be your sign to say “Sí, por favor”.
