Our In the Staffroom series takes you behind the scenes to meet the stars of our teaching team. Today, we’re thrilled to introduce Allyson Turpin, our go-to expert for French and Spanish. And we can’t wait to share her insights and a few fun facts about her teaching journey and tremendous passion for languages.

Q: How did you get started in teaching French and Spanish?

  • Allyson: “I’ve been teaching French and Spanish for 12 years now, both in classrooms and 1:1. I have a BA Honours Degree in both languages and a PGCE to teach them. I’ve also worked as a Spanish examiner for AQA, which gives me lots of useful insider knowledge.”

Q: What’s your favourite thing about teaching?

  • Allyson: “I love hearing from students who’ve used their language skills on holiday. There’s nothing better than knowing I’ve helped make their experience abroad more enjoyable and rewarding.”

Q: Let’s get to know the real Allyson! What’s your favourite food?

  • Allyson: “Seafood! I can’t resist prawns and squid, especially when I’m by the sea.”

Q: How do you unwind?

  • Allyson: “Walking along my local canal or diving into a good book are my ideal ways to relax. Nothing spectacular. But I find a little escape goes a long way.”

Q: Any quirky hobbies?

  • Allyson: “Back in university, my friend Jayne and I invented our own language—‘J and A talk.’ It was our secret code, and we had so much fun with it.”

Allyson’s enthusiasm for languages is contagious. She’s always ready to inspire the next generation of linguists. And trust us, you’re in expert hands with Allyson, whether you’re tackling GCSEs or dreaming of your next Costa getaway.
